What are the Best Practices for Storage?
Here are just a few simple tips for placing your items into container storage:
- Use good quality, fully filled boxes to avoid collapsing;
- Try using plastic boxes so that the contents inside are visible;
- Mark the boxes to make them identifiable and keep a record of what you have put into storage for future reference;
- Protect fragile items with bubble wrap to avoid breakage;
- When storing fridges or freezers ensure they are clean and dry with the doors open to allow ventilation;
- Cover items with clean and dry dust covers to avoid dust settlement on your belongings;
- Avoid the possibility of condensation build up by storing items which are clean and dry;
- Always store items which will be regularly used at the front of the container to allow ease of access when retrieving them.
Can I only access my Container during Office Hours?
No, you are given a remote control/key fob at the beginning of your rental for the automated gate entry system which allows 24-hours a day, 7-days a week access to your container at no additional charge.
How do I pay for my Container Rental?
We pride ourselves on making available the first online rental/payment system for container self-storage in Scotland, allowing you to rent online and set up recurring payments. This online system allows you to manage your rental online. We also accept card payments, bank transfer or cash in person.
How often do I pay for my Container Rental?
Payment is due in advance at a fixed amount + VAT per month, this will be due on the same date each month from the rental start date. This ensures you have a regular and fixed payment each month.
Do I require my own Padlock for the Container?
We ask all our customers to provide their own padlock, so you can be rest assured that you’re the only one with access to your container. A variety of padlocks can be used; our friendly team can offer assistance if needed.
Is there a minimum/maximum rental period?
There is a minimum rental period of one month and no maximum, you can rent for as long as you need!
Do the containers suffer from condensation?
Our new containers are modern with fully fitted ventilators and not flat-roofed, therefore we have very few issues with condensation build up. Condensation can occur through the rise and fall of the temperature outside mixed with moisture already in the container. This can be avoided by ensuring your items are dry when storing.
How secure are my stored items?
Our new containers are made from corten steel and are wind & watertight. The containers are located within a fully fitted steel palisade fenced site, using high powered LED Floodlighting and 24-hour monitored CCTV surveillance. We also use automated gate entry systems for access control. You take the security of your possessions seriously and so do Top Box Self Storage.
Is there a notice period for leaving?
We only require 14-days’ notice before leaving. At this point, you will be sent any refunds due or invoiced for monies owed.
Are there any goods I cannot store within my container?
We do not allow the storage of the following goods:
- Perishable goods unless securely packed so that they are protected from and do not attract vermin;
- Plants, birds, fish, animals or any other living creatures;
- Combustible or flammable materials or liquids;
- Firearms, explosives, weapons, ammunition or any components of these;
- Chemicals, radioactive materials, biological agents;
- Toxic waste, asbestos or other materials of a potentially dangerous nature;
- Any item which emits any fumes, smell or odour;
- Compressed gases;
- Any illegal substances, illegal items or goods illegally obtained;
- Goods which are environmentally harmful or that are a risk to the property of any person;
- Items which are irreplaceable or of high value;
- Waste materials including any materials or goods for export deemed to be waste.
Are there any deposits due at the beginning of my rental?
There is no deposit required to rent your container, no reservation fee and no deposit for your gate entry remote control. Should we have to replace a lost/damaged remote control or if it’s not returned at the end of the rental period there will be a charge of £20 + VAT. We hate hidden costs, that’s why we’re upfront and transparent.
