PUT AN END TO CONTAINER SELF STORAGE MYTHS

Too often people are afraid of what they don’t know, believing that container self-storage carries an extravagant cost and with terms littered in clauses that do nothing to protect the consumer and only serve for the companies commercial gain.

In reality, Container Self-Storage is super simple, jargon-free and a real problem solver in times of need.

In this brief post, we will outline four of the most common myths we have to bust frequently at our Edinburgh Container Self-Storage Facility.

4 CONTAINER SELF-STORAGE MYTHS – BUSTED!

  1. Container Storage has Long and Fixed Contractual Obligations

This varies by facility but we can assure you with Top Box Self Storage there are no contractual tie in’s and our lease agreements can go rolling from one month to the next, with our clients free to leave at their discretion.

Not every self-storage company is the same and it is worth inquiring about this before you rent because we know for a fact, month to month tie-free container rentals are in demand but are few and far between, which is why we choose to go clutter free on our rental agreements.

  1. You Can Store Absolutely Anything in a Self-Storage Unit

This one is mostly true. As a rule of thumb if the items are legal and safe, they can be stored in a self-storage unit. There are a limited number of items that won’t be allowed in a self-storage facility, those that are flammable, dangerous or illegal more of which can be found in our FAQs.

With outdoor containers there are precautions you can take to store larger items like cars, motorbikes and even boats which include draining flammable liquids prior to storage. With drive up to the door access from outdoor self-storage containers it is often the go-to storage solution for bulkier items provided the correct safety measures are taken. Indoor storage facilities will have the same requirements for your items to be safe and legal, albeit with a limited capacity for bulkier items.

With the exception of hazardous goods like dangerous chemicals, illegal substances or controlled flammables like fireworks, Container Self-Storage can be used for almost anything.

  1. Container Self-Storage Units are Dingy and Dirty

If dingy and dirty pops into your mind when you think of Container Self-Storage Units, you have yet to look inside a new One Trip Container. (See this page for the difference between used, and new one trip containers for self-storage)

Converted units that have been in use on construction sites or the likes for years are going to be dingy and dirty before attempts are made to bring them up to a usable standard. Those are called reconditioned or used storage units and no matter how much work is done to bring an old second-hand container up to standard; it won’t get close to a new one trip container.

All the Containers at the Top Box Self-Storage Facility are New One Trip Containers, fully ventilated, regularly inspected and meticulously cleaned after the previous customer moves their items out of storage.

You will be amazed when you peek behind the doors of any of our Self-Storage Containers.

  1. Self-Storage Containers are Expensive

There is a big difference between a self-storage “Container” and self-storage in general. The price for self-storage depends on the type of unit you are leasing.

Indoor self-storage is expensive and that’s because there is a high cost for fitting out warehouses into individual units, installing lifts to different floors and the ongoing expense of keeping the lights on, heating and air-conditioning running and overheads for employees. Factoring into the space of a converted warehouse the corridors, offices for staff, reception space and loading bays, an indoor facility will never be able to operate at 100% storage capacity.

Self-Storage containers that are located outdoors are far from expensive. There’s drive up to the door access, 100% usable storage space in every container and per square foot, outside Container Self-Storage will be cheaper than an inside storage facility.

When you consider that our price per square foot of Container Self-Storage is cheaper than indoor self-storage facilities, our management storage service has zero contractual commitment and no down payment required, it’s a no brainer to contact Top Box Self-Storage to rent the space you need to store your items. You will get the best price for managed storage with easy access that is convenient and super secure.
